Miss O’s Mermaid themed 6th Birthday Party!

August 19, 2015

I can hardly believe that my little girl turned 6 last weekend!!  The weather cooperated and we celebrated with a fun Mermaid party at our community beach park on the lake!

I designed the cutest invite and printable set with graphics from one of my favorite shops – Prettygrafik Design.  This invite and the entire Bubble Mermaid printable party set is available in my shop NOW!

mermaid bday food table

Since the party started before lunch we did a kind of brunch/snack theme with the food.  I created the paper plate fish and lantern jellyfish to go with the printable banner I designed for the backdrop behind the food table.  Of course I took most of my pictures before the fabulous cake arrived, but we will see that soon!

The jellyfish turned out so great – I think they were worth the blistered fingers from hot glue!  I used a tutorial from Party City to make them from a paper lantern, vinyl tablecloth and curling ribbon!

Here is a tighter shot of the banner and the paper plate fish.  Miss O even helped me make a few of the fish.

mermaid bday chocolate muffins circles food tent

Miss O is a huge chocolate fan, as well as a muffin fan.  I found this recipe for chocolate chocolate chip muffins and made a bunch for the party.  The party circles were perfect for dressing up the muffins.  The food tents turned out pretty cute too!

mermaid bday oyster cookies

I made these cute oyster cookies with their own little pink pearl.  They were very easy – Nilla wafers, frosting and the edible pearl.  The kids loved them and they went quickly.

mermaid bday pirate booty treasure chest

We also had croissants, gold fish and fruit.  Miss O requested Pirate Booty and thought it would be cool to put it in a treasure chest.  I made this treasure chest from a shoebox with brown paper, gold washi tape and gold trim, and then lined it with pink fabric.

mermaid bday beverage table

Here is the beverage table where we served Starbucks coffee and Strawberry lemonade.  I made 2 scallop banners and put one on the food table and one on the beverage table.  I love how they add to the décor and then can be hung up in the child’s room as décor.

mermaid bday water bottle labels

We also served water and milk (reg and chocolate) for the kiddos.  Mermaid water bottle labels to make them pretty of course!

mermaid bday kids table

The kids table was set up with purple table cloths and coloring placemats for the kids.  I recently got these kids tables and chairs and I am so excited to have them!!  Love having all of the kiddos together!

I designed these mermaid coloring placemats so the kids had an activity while everyone was arriving.  The buckets are for the shell hunt we did later.

mermaid bday photo props

These awesome photo op cut outs were borrowed from a neighbor who made them for our annual neighborhood summer party.  They were absolutely perfect for Miss O’s party!

mermaid bday sand art activity

One craft was to make a Sand Art necklace.  I found the heart and star bottles on amazon and got the sand at Michaels.

The other craft was making a bead backpack hanger.  According to Miss O is cool to have fun things hanging from your backpack at school.

Mr. V showing off his creation.  More about his outfit in a future post.

mermaid bday shell hunt

The last activity was a shell hunt on the beach. I bought larger shells at a craft store and my husband and a friend tossed them around the beach so the kids could find them.  This activity didn’t last long but they sure had fun while it lasted!

Then it was time for cake!  Doesn’t Miss O look adorable in her birthday outfit!

The cake was made by Sugar Craft Sweets, a good friend of mine’s business.  It turned out pretty adorable!

mermaid bday mermaid tail favor bag

I love a good (reusable) favor bag you know, so the girls took home these cute mermaid tail drawstring bags that I made.  They were filled with a bracelet, stickers, candy and a small mermaid Barbie.

The few boys at the party (2) got a bucket, ball, Frisbee, starfish and candy.  I didn’t think they would be so into the mermaid bag.

mermaid bday favor tag

Any little siblings that came to the party got a sticky starfish.  The favor tags are pretty cute too.

These cuties had a fun morning!  And so did the birthday girl!  Happy Birthday O – can hardly believe you are 6 already!!
