So yes my son is now 2-1/2, but I still wanted to share his nursery that I designed.  I love love love this room!  He is still in it but its changed slightly (ie: crib traded for a car toddler bed).  I wanted to share the original design that was completed back in 2011 before he was born. I previously shared my daughter’s baby room HERE, my very first nursery design, check it out!

My husband works in airplanes, so I knew even before we found out what gender our second baby was that if the baby was a boy that his room would be all airplanes!  I even crocheted 3 airplanes for his room before we found out!  Thankfully I was able to use them!  I used the airplane crochet pattern from Ana Paula Rimoli’s second book, Amigurumi Two!:  Crocheted Toys for me and you and baby too (I actually wanted to learn how to crochet because of Ana Paula’s books – so cute!).

I found an inspiration picture of a monkey in a plane and then enlisted the help of my very talented sister to help me recreate is on V’s wall! It really is the star of the room, it turned out so cute!  My sister did an amazing job on the airplane.  I painted his name above his crib in a cloudy contrail look.  I love how it turned out.

For the room colors, I went with classic blue, red and white and found an amazing but simple airplane print fabric for all of the soft goods. This was my first time really making just about everything for a room. I made sheets, crib skirt, changing pad covers, a book sling, a diaper hanger, basket inserts, curtains and an accent pillow.  Let’s go around the room (sorry for some of the blurry pictures, these pictures were taken a long time ago, before my new fancy camera)…

This is the feeding/reading corner. We got the glider from Target (I was so happy to find a white one in our price range!). I made the book sling, pillow and curtains. My aunt made the amazing chevron crocheted blanket for me as a baby shower gift.  The little side table was from Ikea. The black and white pictures of airplanes are pictures my husband had since he was a kid. I found red and blue frames at Ikea that were perfect.

I wanted to buy airplane tie backs and finials from Pottery Barn, but my husband came up with an awesome idea! He made them!

He took matchbox size airplane and spray painted them and then attached them to the curtain rod and tie backs. Such a smart guy!

This is the changing corner. The changing table/dresser was bought for my daughter. I painted the knobs and stenciled airplanes on them. I painted the lamp and covered the shade to match and hung the diaper holder from the shelves. I made basket liners for some plastic baskets I found at Target. We were going to find an actual propeller to mount on the wall, but then decided to save the $$ and paint one! It was my husband’s idea to use the chains to “hang” the mirror and airplane pictures. I love how it turned out!

This is the crib corner.  The main feature is the painting on the wall, but I made the crib skirt and sheets.  The crib bumper is a breathable bumper that I purchased.  The red basket on the floor is a pop up laundry basket from Ikea.  The red and blue rugs are also from Ikea.

This is the final corner of the room, the entry door.  Yeah its just a door, but there is something special over the top – parachuting monkeys!!  My sister did an awesome job!  She drew and painted the little monkeys on the wall and I added the 3D parachutes hanging from the ceiling and attaching to the wall with strings.

And the fifth wall, the ceiling!  In a baby’s room especially, you can not forget the ceiling.  Since baby’s are on their backs (back is best) for the first few months of their life, why not make their view interesting!  My sister and I painted clouds and a few airplanes on the ceiling.

This room was a labor of love – my husband was very involved and it was awesome!  Our little boy has the most awesome airplane room ever (in my opinion!)  I really do love designing kid’s rooms!  I have a few more that I will share soon (my daughter’s big girl room and my friend’s twin’s room), but I really hope I get to do another one soon, maybe for my baby sister (crossing fingers).
