Wow! The past few weeks have been inspiring, heartbreaking, crazy and hard! As a white woman, I have been trying to listen and learn from the amazing black women of the world. I KNOW that I come from a place of priviledge and I am learning things that I didn’t know about the history of America and it’s absolutely heart breaking!
I am so hopeful that the strong Black voices and allys will bring about REAL change in this country – and that marginalized communities can live without fear for themselves and their families!
My business is tiny but I was awakened to the fact that I am guilty of adding to the problem of racism by not openly offering custom party printables that represent ALL kids! I have always been open to making changes in my printable party designs to suit the client in terms of hair and skin color – but I haven’t been offering that as an option in the first place.
I sincerely apologize!
The fun of custom party printables is to be able to truly customize the design to reflect the birthday kid – and that includes how the people in the designs are represented! Not all of my designs have people – but I will make a commitment that any designs with people will include many skin and hair color options! All of the games in my shop (my most popular items) now all have options to choose hair color and skin tone!! And of course other elements can be matched to the birthday child!
This is not enough and I am open to any and all suggestions as to how I can improve my business to include more kids of color, themes, etc. Comment on this post, or send me an email – jeni@jenirodesigns.com. I appreciate any feedback!
