Big birthday celebrations with friends are fun but having a small family birthday celebration can be just as memorable!
There are so many ways you can make your child feel special on their birthday while celebrating at home with just immediate family! Here are 7 ideas to get to inspire your next family birthday celebration!
DECORATE THE HOUSE FOR THEIR BIRTHDAY WEEK!
A Birthday Banner is always a hit and so easy to make and hang up anywhere! You can get a printable customized banner from my shop – or just make your own with some paper and pens!! Here is a video tutorial on how to prep your printable banner! Add balloons, streamers, other decor if you like.
I like to decorate our entryway for the week of their birthday as well.
DECORATE THEIR ROOM THE NIGHT BEFORE THEIR BIRTHDAY!
We have put up streamers in the doorway and filled their room with balloons! So easy and super fun when you do it the night before while they are sleeping – they will be so surprised in the morning.
MAKE THEM THE VIP FOR THE DAY!
Let them choose the TV programs or movies, breakfast, lunch, snacks – everything for the day of their birthday! Anything goes (within reason)!
Serve THEIR FAVORITE MEAL FOR DINNER!
Make, get take out, or go to your kid’s favorite restaurant for their birthday dinner.
MAKE (OR ORDER) THEIR FAVORITE DESSERT!
Try out a fun cake recipe or order the cookie cake he has been eyeing at the store! We splurged on the mud pie at Red Robin one year for O’s birthday. Yum!
USE TECHNOLOGY TO SPREAD THE BIRTHDAY LOVE!
Video chat with friends, grandparents, cousins, aunties, etc – so they can wish the birthday kid a Happy Birthday! This is a phone screenshot of my nephew opening his birthday present from us – a new quilt Auntie made him.
MAKE A PRODUCTION OF GIFT TIME!
Video the unwrapping, ooh, and ahh over the gifts. Make it fun! Gift time is our dog Chip’s favorite part. He loves helping open gifts.
