In 2013, we threw a joint bug birthday party for both kiddos at the Pacific Science Center in Seattle. They have awesome party packages with fun themes – I knew that the kids would love the bug theme and I found the cutest bug clip art from Pixel Paperie on Etsy to make up some party printables/décor.
I started working on the printables while diving into and learning my new Photoshop Elements program – and found out that designing my own printables is fun! I designed this cute invite to start it all off! The invite and all of the other bug birthday party printables are available in my shop!
As part of the party package at the science center – they decorated the room in the theme and provided the cake, as well as crafts for the kids, a visit with a creature and a liquid nitrogen ice cream demo. I of course had to add a few more décor pieces and bring food and favors for the kiddos!
Bug nets in buckets – décor and favors all in one!
Bug antenna for everyone to wear.
Miss O and I showing off our bug antenna!
Birthday banners! And since we couldn’t bring balloons – I had to draw some for us.
For the food I picked up some platters from our local grocery store – pinwheel sandwiches turned into snails and pb&js with worms!
Complete with food tent labels and party circles!!
Wormy pb&js!
The Birthday Boy in his bug shirt, enjoying the yummy food.
Even our science center presenter got in on the fun with her bug antenna!
The kids got to color/make a butterfly life cycle wheel and a coffee filter butterfly. O & L are adding the drops of water here to make the color spread!
The kids got to see up close and touch (yes Touch!) a Madagascar hissing cockroach! All bug skittish people stayed at the back of the room – but most of the kids had no problem being close. Miss O is touching the bug in this picture, she loves her bugs!
Then Miss O, all cute in her bug outfit, blogged about here, got to help make the ice cream!! She mixed all the ingredients and then the science center girl got out the heavy duty equipment and liquid nitrogen to turn it into ice cream!
It was a very impressive show. The kids got to feel the cold clouds coming off the ice cream. After a couple pours of the liquid nitrogen we had pink vanilla ice cream – so cool!
Then it was time for cake! The science center provided the adorable cake and I brought the “through the years” pics of the kids. Getting so big, so fast!
Birthday kids with Mom and Dad! Our little buggy family!
Along with the bug nets and antenna, the big kids got a bug catching container filled with plastic bugs and gummy worms, while the little kids got a stuffed bug I made, which I blogged about here, with gummy worms and bug shakers. I think they all loved their goodies! Everyone also got to enjoy the Pacific Science Center and all the fabulous exhibits for the rest of the day! It was a very fun day!
Our kiddos had an awesome bug birthday party!
