Early market lessons and some awesome fellow vendors!

June 2, 2014

It’s been a little more than a month since the Issaquah Farmer’s Market has been open!  I have only been there 3 times but I have already learned a lot about booth set up and supplies and have met a lot of nice people/artists.  My booth has changed a little with each weekend so far – working out the kinks you know.

4-19 booth close

The first saturday’s booth – opening day for the market.  I thought it was pretty cute but I felt very awkward standing in the middle of the booth.  People didn’t want to come in and check out my stuff with me standing in the way – and I don’t blame them.  I sold a few things this first day – yeah 3 things to be exact.  The morning was nice and a lot of my friends stopped by to say HI – but then the rain came.  No actually it was a monsoon!  So windy and rainy – everything got wet!  That cute pink rug there, well it was soaked through and so heavy to lift.  We learned that side walls were a must to keep some of the rain out and that our tent leaked or just couldn’t handle the amount of rain we got that first market.

The second Saturday at the market was almost a month after the first one since we went on vacation.

As you can see the booth set up was a little different.  I moved the table so I could sit behind it and not feel so awkward – and so that customers didn’t have to come into the tent so far to check stuff out.  Thankfully the weather was awesome – no rain and lots of sun.  I sold about the same as I did at the first market, but I did get more traffic and passed out cards.  It was a good day.

The 3rd Saturday I was moved to a different row and tweaked my set up only slightly.

I kept my table in the same spot and moved my “Toy of the Day” to the front corner. Well I didn’t sell a snake, but I did sell more this market! Yay! I also added the princess dresses – they got a few looks but no orders.

So far sales have been low, but the exposure is great!  And I have met some of the nicest people in the other vendors at the market.  I don’t have a lot of opportunities to explore the market while I am selling there, but I do get to chat with the vendors around me.

Some of the awesome vendors I have met are:

Ami at Luv Macarons – Yummy macarons.  I definitely plan on ordering some for my daughter’s upcoming princess birthday party!

Heather at Heather Downes Jewelry – She has the prettiest jewelry!  Gorgeous beads made from over 100 tiny beads.  I need a pink pair!

Cathy at CC Marie (no website)- She has the cutest tutus and wings for little girls.  I happily purchased a set of wings for Miss O – which of course she loved!

Lisa at Lisa Boyce Jewelry – Very stylish but approachable jewelry.  I need to stock up on my pink and blue earrings!

A few more favorites – Pinckney Cookie Café – yummy traditional cookies, Cheeky Kumquat – funny funny greeting cards and Pavel’s Puzzles – the coolest puzzle games perfect for my smarty pants nephews!

I am excited for the summer of market Saturdays and meeting more potential customer and other market vendors!  If you are in the Seattle area this summer – come see me at the Issaquah Farmer’s Market!!
