I know this isn’t party related but I have to share because I am pretty darn proud of myself! I finally finished quilts for my kiddos!! Mom made quilts for Christmas!
Pretty much since I started sewing I have wanted to make quilts for my kids. So many years ago I found fabrics I loved (that I thought my kids would love) just for this purpose. But I never found (or made) the time to do it. Well fast forward to now – I finally made the time, but now my kid’s tastes have changed. The cars/Hot Wheels fabric I had for V wasn’t going to work anymore! No worries – I used that stash to make my 5 year old nephew a quilt!
This time I started with the quilt pattern and then found fabrics. For O’s quilt I found this awesome Kittens quilt by Elizabeth Hartman. O helped pick out the fabric and which of the kittens she wanted (I didn’t use one of the versions from the pattern).
Her favorite colors are purple and aqua/teal so we used a mix with a little light pink thrown in. These blocks were really fun to make and I was surprised at how quickly it came together. I sent the final top and backing to my aunts in WA state to do the quilting. My aunt did a fun swirly pattern and even hid a little mouse on the quilt!
Here is O on Christmas morning when she finally got to see the finished quilt. She even made her bed the next moring and arranged the quilt on it so nicely! That’s a Mom win!
V has a slight obsession with chickens – so when I saw this quilt pattern from Cluck Cluck Sew I knew I just had to make it for him! He also loves all things space and I happened to have some space themed fabric in my stash, so I did more of a Chickens in Space vibe! I love how it turned out! My aunts quilted it again with stars this time – so cool!!
V loved it and it hasn’t left his bed since he got it!
Thanks for reading and letting me brag. I am pretty pleased with myself and happy the kiddos love them and have a keepsake made by Mom (with some great aunties help)!
