An awesome sewing blog, Sew Mama Sew, is doing a great series right now – 6 Weeks of Softies!! They are having guest posts from all the cool stuffed animal designers as well as a few drives and contests!
The toy drive benefits Foster Kids – and that is something close to my heart!
My middle sister (I am the oldest of 3 girls) always wanted a daughter, but after having her 2 sons (and a gajillion nephews on her husbands side), she was pretty sure that if they had a 3rd kid it would be a boy. And there would have been nothing wrong with that – she just knew she wanted a girl and was always open to adoption, so they became foster parents to find their daughter!
After several years and many many adorable little girls in their home, including 2 they had for almost a year and thought they were going to get to adopt (that was hard on all of us), they found her! Miss N joined my sister’s family (and our extended family) when she was 2 years old – they officially got to adopt her about a year later (I think).
Here is my girl, Miss O (as Anna) and Miss N (as Elsa) at O’s birthday party last year. These two have so much fun together and since neither of them have a sister – they get to be each others!
My sister continues to work with the foster care agency in her community and continues to foster kids when a need is present. She also organizes amazing Foster Night Outs (FNO) through her work at Compass Church. These FNOs give the foster kids a night of fun while the foster parents get a night out/off! So when I saw that Sew Mama Sew was doing a handmade toy drive for Foster kids – I knew that was definitely something I could help with!!
Looking through all of the stuffed animals that I currently have made and in my shop, I decided to donate one of my zebras!
Since not all foster kids are babies – I knew that this zebra could be loved by a kid of any age – boy or girl!
Seriously who wouldn’t love a stuffed zebra! And this guy is so soft! He is made from a zebra print cuddle fabric that is amazing to touch.
I just know that a very special kid will be snuggling with this zebra every night! I hope it can bring them a little more comfort in their lives.
If you make stuffed animals and can donate – go HERE and check out all the information about the toy drive!! I am so happy I can help!
