Custom made Elsa inspired dresses!

April 25, 2014 · 2 Comments

I have to admit that I absolutely adore the movie Frozen and haven’t yet gotten tired of the movie or songs.  It seems that a lot of other people haven’t either – especially the 3 – 10 year old female set, since anything Frozen is so hot that they can’t keep it on the shelves!  I made my daughter an Elsa dress for our trip to Disneyland (we leave soon! Woohoo!) that you can check out HERE!  She loves it and has already asked where her Anna dress is.  Well a friend of mine loved it too and asked me to make 2 Elsa dresses for her nieces – yes they both wanted to be Elsa! So of course I had to say yes!

Since the girls were a little older than my daughter, I decided to change the design and go with a dress that is a little more grown up and closer to the real dress that the character wears in the movie. I found the perfect Simplicity pattern to help me bring my vision to life!  The above picture shows both dresses – just the back of one and the front of the other.  Here is another picture of the front of both that I took in my back yard before shipping them off to my friend.

One cool feature that I did was to make the cape detachable. I sewed clear snaps to the cape and dress so the cape can be removed if the girl wants it out of her way, or for cleaning (hand wash only) the dress! I am kicking myself now that I didn’t make my daughter’s cape detachable!  I just finished another one of these dresses and while the detachable cape is a lot of work, I think its worth it!

The dresses turned out gorgeous and they look pretty on the hanger, but OMGeeee they look amazing on the little ones themselves!  My friend so kindly sent me some amazing pictures of her nieces in the dresses!

Such lucky little girls to have a special Auntie and Uncle!  So fun to make their birthdays special!  Beautiful princesses in beautiful princess dresses!

My daughter is having a Frozen birthday party and wants an Elsa dress. I am going to make one and was looking for a dress pattern that I could use. Could you tell me which simplicity pattern you used, I would really appreciate it.
