We are heading to the beach soon and I felt like I needed a nice big beach bag! I have been so busy with party projects and sewing for my kids that I thought I deserved a little selfish sewing (plus my birthday is coming up soon)!
A quick search on the internet I found a number of beach bag or oversize bag sewing tutorials. Here are a few that look good:
I Heart Naptime – Oversized Beach Bag
Put up your Dukes – Big Mommy Giant Beach Bag
But I chose to follow this tutorial from Muse of the Morning. It was a big bag and it looked like I could get it sewn up in one evening! And that I did!
I used fabric from my stash. A hot pink duck cloth for the outer, straps and bottom and a super cute flamingo print for the lining and pockets. I only had a yard of the flamingo print – so I had to use the duck cloth for the interior bottom and piece one of the pockets – but I made it work.
I love the elasticized pockets on the design – perfect for the kids’ water bottles that always need to be at quick reach, and of course that all important sunscreen!
These pics were taken quickly in my backyard to show off the bag (with a giant beach towel inside) – but I will take pictures at the beach when we go. Follow me on Instagram (@jeniro) to see the bag in action! Follow me!!
